End of an Error
February 2nd, 2011I started Denim Diary originally 4 years ago… lost my domain name and then restarted this year as denimdiary.net when I joined the MyNudies.com Levis STF Contest. While I’ve been wearing dry denim for several years and it is a definite passion of mine, all the distractions of life (mostly job, school and a major move last year) have kept me from blogging and updating even my Flickr account.
When I was ready to blog, I wanted to write about some decidedly non-denim things, so I didn’t. I still have several denim posts (10 to be exact) that I need to finish and post. But even writing those has proved to be a bit uninspired, and I’m not into being disingenuous.
TheDenimDiary will still continue to exist and I will revive posting whenever I have denim-related stories. I will also continue to update it with pics of my denim. Meanwhile, I will be launching a new site that will allow me to also blog my other interests. Style, Social Causes/Current Events, Travel, Food a little soccer for good measure… and of course, Texas:
This will allow me to revive my blogging and not feel so confined and limited with my posts. I love denim & always have. it’s been a part of my life from birth (post to come). Part of the reason I love denim, however, is not just the fact that it’s denim. It’s the fact that it becomes a part of you (post to come) and khakis or leather boots can often do the exact same thing (posts to come).
Cheers!

Rally Steeze or an FYM Take on Sports
October 29th, 2010Backed into a corner.
No choice but to battle back via walk-a-wear.
Sprezzatura be damned.
You know how hard we fought to be here.
Eating the 5 hot dog limit on dollar hot dog night.
No ketchup. No relish. No frills. Stale beer.
I was there.
And I’m here now.
New Era Rally Cap: On
Franklin Batting Gloves: Off
Antlers: UP. All the way. Up.
Don’t make me break out the claw.
Did I wear this shirt earlier this week? Maybe. Screw you for questioning me.
This is rally time.
Just For Men gel? Sounds like you’re trying to overcompensate for something, Wilson.
This beard has no fear.
… or dye.
Brass knucks lapel pin.
Central Watch regimental watch band on a Wal-Mart Easy Reader knock-off. Because this is war & I don’t want my Tank to get bloody. Magna Cartier.
btw, i’m not linking Central Watch cause it’s my secret.
Newbury Jacket: Rugby.
Cuff’s unbuttoned to let you know it’s legit.
Even though that doesn’t really count for much anymore. Are you questioning me again?
J.Crew Oxford.
Rugby Chinos hiked high above Royal Blue Chucks.
Underneath that you know I’ve got my matching Calvin rally drawers.
No Homme-O.
Giant? I got news for you. Everything is big in Texas.
Especially my World Series Rally Wardrobe 2010.
Tartan Tie: Hilfiger. Didn’t you know? Reclaiming 90′s prep from the ghetto is the dernier cri.
Just wait till you’re rocking him again in 3 years. And I’ll have moved on to something so next level. Cross Colors? No. Girbaud. And you’ll have no choice to follow suit. Wait 6 years. You’ll see.
Same for that short bathing suit I pulled out 4 summers ago. And those Limited Ed Ray Chuck Wayfarezies that I gave you last year because I was already over them. Remember that time I showed up with no socks on and opera pumps 2 years ago and you commented on my Facebook page about how I should have worn some? Wow.
Upon review, I’m even more next level than I thought.
Rocking my blue stretchy Little League belt from 8th grade. Yes, we were the Rangers. AND WE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST THE SILSBEE ATHLETICS.
I might have made that last part up.
Oh wait? What’s the behind me?
Oh… just my FC Dallas Scarf.
That’s right. Another Texas team on their way to a championship.
But nobody cares besides me because they can’t appreciate the Beautiful Game.
Which is also what I happen to call my style.
Which is what I rock every day.
Deportes al la mode.
I think I just mixed spanish and french together there.
You didn’t even catch it.
Next. Level.
Tongue planted firmly in cheek. Copping FYMenswear’s steeze.
Seacrest out.
Mocc Sock Goes Denim
October 18th, 2010Over the past year or so, Mocc Sock & Co. caused a bit of a stir with their Mocc Socks; comfortable no-show socks made with dudes in mind. Sure Gap had the Not Socks in years past and this isn’t a new idea for the ladies, but it was a welcome item for any guy rocking boat shoes, slipons, espadrilles… who am I kidding. Any type of shoe. Socks suck… and Mock Sock & Co. could hardly keep up with the initial demand.
I often found myself wondering what else they could do, or if they would venture into anything besides the no-show sock world. Que the rebranding to MS&Co.; purveyor of not just Mock Socks… but a host of selvage denim lifestyle accessories. [via thebengalstripe]
Honestly, denim is a great material for these applications because of it’s ability to mirror the life of the user. Throwing some of your most constant companions into well-fitted Selvedge Sleeves has it’s obvious benefits, but the added surprise & delight is the dye transfer onto all your accessories and where you store them.
I love a solid passport cover, but with the new bar code inside passport covers, most of them have been rendered more of a drag than a convenience. MS&Co.’s passport sleeve will make it easy to hold onto luggage IDs, ticket stubs & paper visas as well. I am definitely going to cop this for my trip to Egypt with my family this Christmas.

80 Days of Ties: Day 3
October 5th, 2010Double repped Rugby today. The Newbury Jackets fit me like a glove in the shoulders.
Current wear pics for my indigo 501s below…
enjoi.
80 Days of Ties: Day 2
October 4th, 2010I will try and get some street shots so that they aren’t all so boring for this project, but the computer shot will be necessary to create the video I’m planning on for the final day.
I’m really stoked to be doing this because I feel that by creating rules, we sometimes inspire creativity. By limiting my options for an outfit (must wear tie), i’m going to have to come up with 80 new ‘fits. It’s stimulating.
When I was in high school, I made a point to wear a tie at least once a week, often times it was two, and as a result I have close to 100 ties. I’ll probably just go through my rotation of 30 or so(I do have some solid stand-bys that go with anything).
We’ll see… that’s the fun of the project, right?
On a denim note. I have still been documenting my denim wear in the same manner, I just haven’t uploaded the daily pics to Flickr since I went to Korea.
The tie project will end shortly before my STF denim contest ends, so I think they will correlate nicely. I might be looking to wash these bad boys in December or so, after around 9 months of solid wear.
80 Days of Ties: Day 1
October 1st, 2010My first entry in Momentum of Failure’s 100 Days, 100 Ties Project.
So not only will I continue to rock my STF’s. (which i have continued to document via photo but not blog about here… shame i know)… but I will update you all with my ties as well.
Summer has swamped me with work and I have not updated flickr or my blog in a couple of months.
I would expect that to change directly.
Read more about the 100 Days, 100 Ties Project here:

great idea.
cheers.
Bucket List Item: Asian Baseball Game
July 14th, 2010Added bonuses: i get to meet my longtime friend Eunice who happens to be passing through Seoul on her way to Cambodia… haha… and we’ve never met IRL. And I also get to hook up with two Dallas friends at the ballgame too.
So stoked…
Now, while this will fulfill my desire to see a Korean baseball game, it still doesn’t mean that my priority in Japan will be a ballgame as well.
STF pics will be taken to document this historic occasion.
Ryan-san out.
I’ll Tell You When There’s Going to Be Action…
May 29th, 2010IfThisIsAwkwardSorry posted this video from Sartorially Inclined (one of my favorite blogs). I couldn’t help but pass it along. Also check out Roy Denim while you’re at it.
